DEMONSTRATING THE LASTEST IN HUMANE TORTURE DEVICES in OLD CHINA

A few nice China images I found:

DEMONSTRATING THE LASTEST IN HUMANE TORTURE DEVICES in OLD CHINA

China

The man in the photo is not a criminal. He is one of the photographer’s guides, and is simply posing with a slight smirk on his face — his shins carefully lifted off the cross boards.

But when they put it to use for real….

Can’t stand up. Can’t sit down. If you relax the tension of your body, your shins dig into the sharpened back-angle of the cross board under your knees. And you stay like this for days… and days… and days.

My wife wishes she had one of these for me.

From a group of original 1895-1935 glass lantern slides depicting scenes and people in pre-WW2 China. The coloring is not mine. They were tinted by hand using fine brushes at the time the slides were made. With only a few exceptions, the size of the slides is 3 1/4 inches x 4 inches, with the centered image being smaller depending on the size of the border matte. I have cropped away the matte for most of these flickr posts. Enjoy..

China Taking Over New York

China

This was taken in New York when crossing over towards Manhattan. There was a huge cargo ship from China pulling into harbor with the buildings of New York in the distance. I thought it was a fitting subject, so I snapped a quick one.

I also wanted to thank Cameron — a fellow photographer I met here in Las Vegas today. He works at the Lion King stage show here and he was nice enough to give my family a backstage tour after the event. It was really remarkable to see how everything worked… and my son and daughter were thrilled to meet Simba. It was quite a thrill! Thanks again Cameron — that was cool!

This was during a brilliant one hour show of dance, song and culture performed on the water by these locals. The fishing Industry is basically in crisis due to overfishing, and this performance put on by local fisherman at night supplements their income.
